Kalimpong : Kalimpong is an east Indian hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Perched on a ridge above the Teesta River, it’s home to colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary. South, the hilltop Durpin Monastery, or Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, contains sacred Buddhist scriptures. Deolo Park has landscaped gardens and offers views of the town and surrounding hills.
Deolo Hill : Deolo Hill, located in Kalimpong, is the highest point in the town, sitting at an altitude of 1,704 meters (5,591 feet). It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The hill is situated to the northeast of the town and features three water reservoirs, two of which are the main sources of drinking water for the town.
From Deolo Hill, you can enjoy an unparalleled vantage point to appreciate the natural beauty of the area. On clear days, one can see the snow-covered peaks of western Sikkim, including the majestic Kanchenjunga. The Teesta River winds its way through the mountainous valley, adding to the picturesque scenery.
Khecheopalri Lake : Khecheopalri Lake is a sacred wish-fulfilling lake in West Sikkim, revered by both Buddhists and Hindus, and is considered a holy site associated with the Buddhist goddess Tara and Guru Padmasambhava. Situated in the Demazong valley, it is renowned for its pristine waters and dense forest surroundings, which are kept clean by legendarily helpful birds that remove fallen leaves. Visitors can offer prayers, feed the fish, or simply enjoy the serene, peaceful atmosphere of this significant religious and ecotourism destination.
Rabdentse Ruins : Rabdentse was the second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814. The capital city was destroyed by the invading Gurkha army and only the ruins of the palace and the chortens are seen here now. However, the ruins of this city are seen close to Pelling and in West Sikkim district in the Northeastern Indian state of present-day Sikkim; Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim which is close to the ruins.
The Rabdentse ruins are part of Buddhist religious pilgrimage circuit starting with the first monastery at Yuksom known as the Dubdi Monastery, followed by Norbugang Chorten, Tashiding Monastery, the Pemayangtse Monastery, the Sanga Choeling Monastery, and the Khecheopalri Lake.
